Cookies Policy
This policy explains how Volk uses cookies and similar technologies on volk.gg. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include your browser's local storage, which lets a site remember settings on your device, and service workers, which let a web app work like an installed app and receive notifications.
Our approach
We only use cookies and storage that are needed to run the Service or to remember choices you make. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. Because these cookies are strictly necessary or store preferences you set, we do not show a cookie consent banner. If we ever add optional cookies, we will ask for your consent first where the law requires it and update this policy.
Cookies we set
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
volk_session | Keeps you signed in and holds your session. Strictly necessary. | Up to 1 year, or until you sign out |
XSRF-TOKEN | Protects forms and requests against cross-site request forgery. Strictly necessary. | Session |
remember_web_* | Keeps you signed in across browser restarts, if set. | Up to 1 year |
device_id | Identifies this browser so you can see and sign out your active sessions in security settings. Strictly necessary. | Up to 1 year |
device_type | Remembers whether to show you the phone or desktop version of the site. | 1 year |
selected_locale | Remembers your language. | 1 year |
theme | Remembers light or dark mode. | 1 year |
cs_v | Records that your browser has received our latest cache refresh, so outdated files are cleared only once. | 1 year |
Cookies set by our network provider
Volk is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects the site from attacks and abuse. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies such as __cf_bm (distinguishing people from bots, about 30 minutes) and cf_clearance (remembering that you passed a security check). These cookies are not used for advertising or to track you across sites. See Cloudflare's cookie policy for details.
Local storage and service workers
We store some preferences in your browser's local storage so they apply instantly, such as whether videos start muted, notification sounds, recently used emoji and reactions, whether to hide your wallet balance, your theme, whether the app updates itself automatically, and whether you dismissed the prompt to install the app.
When you use Volk as an installed web app or turn on notifications, your browser registers our service worker. It receives push notifications and keeps the app up to date. It does not track your browsing on other sites.
Your choices
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, you will not be able to sign in or use most of the Service. You can clear local storage and remove the service worker by clearing site data for volk.gg in your browser. You can turn notifications off in your Volk settings or your browser at any time.
